BarCamp London 8 Review
Over the weekend of the 13th–14th November, Global Personals sponsored BarCamp London 8. The event was held at London’s City University and hosted more than 250 delegates over the two days. This event was one of the biggest of its kind anywhere in the world, and we were glad to be a part of it.
BarCamp London is a volunteer-driven “participatory unconference” where the schedule of sessions, talks and demonstrations is only decided on the day by the attendees. Every attendee is encouraged to get involved through running a session, helping out with the organisation, raising awareness of the event through blogging or tweeting, or even just helping clean up at the end.
At Global Personals we are huge proponents of giving back to the technical and development communities that have helped us grow to the award winning company we are now. Not only did we sponsor one of the meals, we also created some custom Werewolf cards with artwork drawn by Thom Lambert which were very well received, with games going on until the early hours of the morning.
Having seen the benefits of these type of events, we’re considering running a number of events at our office in Windsor in 2011, with plans currently including quarterly geek nights, one-day BarCamp-style events, and maybe even a dating-themed Hack Day or two. If you’re interested in either attending or contributing to any of these events, please get in contact and let us know your thoughts.
