Online Dating use to be seen as the last resort for single people, well not anymore. In the last few years it has become one of the fastest growing social networking trends. Online Dating has become more socially acceptable, with the Internet revolutionizing the dating scene worldwide.

Michael J Rosenfeld from Stanford University has called “the Web the greatest technological shake up the dating scene has ever witnessed…with as many as one quarter of all couples first meeting online”.
In the UK alone there are 15 million single people, over 7 million of them are registered on dating sites, that’s the total population of London! The amount of users has doubled in the last few years with 16,000 new singletons joining everyday, 5,323 of them to Global Personals which is over a third of the market. According to Online Dating Magazine the UK Online Dating craze is even outdoing the US, when you take into consideration the population sizes this is impressive.
So why has Online Dating become so popular?
The Internet plays an essential role in our everyday lives, we use it for work, shopping, networking, entertainment and so much more. So why not dating!? Online Dating is convenient, cheap, you have full control over your dating life (lets face it no one knows you better than you do or what you want), and most of all its fun! People can get online 24/7 anywhere and everywhere making dating 24/7, we no longer have to wait for date night! Research by Micahel J Rosenfield found that 82.2% of people with access to the web at home had a spouse or partner compared to 62.8% without Internet connection.
With the recession people can no longer afford to go to bars and clubs on the off chance they might meet one or two people who take their fancy, whereas online you can search through hundreds of profiles in one evening without even leaving the comfort of your home!
